On Thursday, 18 June 2025, Prof. Dr. Christoph Heitz of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) will give a public talk titled "Wer gestaltet die Zukunft? KI, Freiheit, Verantwortung" ("Who Shapes the Future? AI, Freedom, Responsibility") at the Gemeindesaal Unterseen, starting at 20:00. The event is part of the supporting programme of the Kunstsammlung Unterseen's exhibition on democracy.
Prof. Heitz argues that technological leaps are reshaping society at an accelerating pace. Smartphones have barely been absorbed into daily life, he contends, when artificial intelligence already calls into question much of what we previously relied on. Humanity, he suggests, is living through the largest real-time experiment in its history, with an uncertain outcome.
The talk addresses what AI does to us as individuals and societies, and what we should do with AI in turn. Its central message is that the future is not determined by technology alone: humans remain the decision-makers.
